Desert Baroque presents an extravagant concert program for 1-4 harpsichords and string ensemble, including Baroque music by Johann Sebastian Bach, his two sons Carl Philipp Emmanuel and Wilhelm Friedemann, a contemporary sonata by Asako Hirabyashi for four harpsichords and strings, and Astor Piazzolla’s “Liber Tango.”  This program, performed twice - in Joshua Tree and Palm Desert, are at the center of Desert Baroque’s Winter Festival, “Fight, Flight & Fantasy.” 

Internationally celebrated harpsichordists, performing and serving as faculty for the Festival master classes hail from across the United States and Europe. Ketil Haugsand, International prize winning performer, Elaine Funaro, Contemporary music specialist, Webb Wiggins, recently retired Oberlin Conservatory Faculty and Basso Continuo Expert, Sonia Lee, Performer and Scholar, Charles Metz, Ensemble and solo performer and Desert Baroque founder and director, Margaret Irwin-Brandon, Early keyboard specialist.

Works on the program include Concerti for multiple harpsichords by J.S. Bach - BWV 1061 and 1065; Fantasia 1, C.P.E. Bach; Sonata for Two harpsichords in F Major, W.F. Bach; From The Art of Fugue, J.S. Bach: Contrapuctus I and 19 (2 harpsichords); Sonata for Four harpsichords and string ensemble, “Mysterious Tapestry” and “Virtuoso Deserts" Asako Hirabyashi - a pre-premier performance; Libertango, Astor Piazzolla.
